POE2 Forbidden Rites — Event League & Live Economy

Forbidden Rites is the Path of Exile 2 0.5.5 event league, announced on 27 August 2026 and launching 4 September at 1 PM PDT. It brings 8 new challenges, exclusive rewards and a major Trial of Chaos overhaul, and it runs alongside Runes of Aldur rather than replacing it. This page tracks its economy from the first hour — see the Currency Desk and Farming page for the full market.

Forbidden Rites economy at launch

Forbidden Rites has not started yet, so it has no economy to report. There are no Forbidden Rites prices anywhere on the internet before 4 September, and any site showing some is showing you a different league.

This section fills in automatically once trading begins. Exiled Tools records a daily snapshot of every priced item from launch day onward, which is what makes the “versus league start” comparisons on the Economy page possible later in the league. In the meantime the Currency Desk covers the live Runes of Aldur market.

What GGG have confirmed

Everything below comes from Grinding Gear Games’ own announcement of 27 August 2026 and the GGG Live broadcast that accompanied it. Nothing here is inferred.

Starts 4 September, 1 PM PDTAnnounced during GGG Live on 27 August 2026. That is 20:00 UTC, or 9 PM BST the same evening. It ships as Path of Exile 2 patch 0.5.5.
8 new challenges and exclusive rewardsA fresh challenge set specific to the event, with rewards GGG describe as exclusive. The individual challenges have not been listed yet.
A major Trial of Chaos overhaulCalled out by name in the announcement as one of the headline changes, with the detail held back for the patch notes.
Runes of Aldur keeps runningGGG confirmed the current league continues alongside the event so players can finish their endgame progression and challenges. Two challenge leagues, two separate economies.

The Duelist and its sword skills were revealed in the same broadcast, but they belong to the 1.0 full release on 11 December 2026, not to this event.

What is not known yet

GGG said the full patch notes land in the week before release. Until they do, these are genuinely open questions, and this page will be updated from the official notes rather than from rumour:

  • How long the event runs, and what happens to Forbidden Rites characters and items when it ends.
  • What the Trial of Chaos overhaul actually changes.
  • Which items, currencies or mechanics are added, reworked or removed — and which are event-only.
  • Whether the event has its own hardcore variant.
  • The eight challenges and what the exclusive rewards are.

That last point matters most for pricing. Event-specific items can be worth a great deal while the event runs and nothing afterwards, so knowing which drops are exclusive changes what is worth farming and what is worth holding.

How to prepare for launch

A fresh economy resets every price relationship you have learned this league. Two things reliably pay off in the opening days:

  • Sell before the switch, not after. Runes of Aldur keeps running, but its trading thins out as players move across. The Currency Exchange helper flags which of your items are already thinly traded and which still have buyers.
  • Expect the anchor currency to move. Early in a league poe.ninja prices against Exalted rather than Divine, because Divine Orbs are scarce until enough have dropped. Ratios quoted in the first days are not comparable with late-league ones.

Once trading opens, the Farming page re-ranks strategies by live divine per hour against Forbidden Rites prices, so the opening-week rankings update as the economy finds its feet.

Forbidden Rites FAQ

When does the POE2 Forbidden Rites event start?

Forbidden Rites launches on 4 September 2026 at 1 PM PDT, which is 20:00 UTC and 9 PM BST the same day. It arrives with Path of Exile 2 patch 0.5.5.

Is Forbidden Rites a full league or an event?

Grinding Gear Games call it an event league. It ships in the 0.5.5 patch with 8 new challenges and exclusive rewards. GGG have not announced how long it runs, and the next confirmed milestone is the 1.0 full release on 11 December 2026.

Does Runes of Aldur end when Forbidden Rites starts?

No. GGG confirmed that the existing Runes of Aldur league will keep running for players who want to finish their endgame progression and challenges. Both leagues run at the same time, each with its own economy, so prices in one do not affect the other.

Does Forbidden Rites have a fresh economy?

It is a separate league, so it has its own separate economy starting from nothing. Expect the usual opening pattern: extreme early volatility, currency ratios that move hour to hour, and prices that only settle once enough trade volume builds up. Exiled Tools starts recording the Forbidden Rites economy from launch day.

Is the Duelist in the Forbidden Rites event?

No. GGG confirmed the Duelist and its sword skills arrive in the Path of Exile 2 1.0 full release on 11 December 2026, not in this event. The Duelist deep dive was shown alongside the Forbidden Rites announcement, which is why the two are often confused.

What is changing in the Trial of Chaos?

GGG announced a major Trial of Chaos overhaul as part of 0.5.5 but have not yet published the detail. Full patch notes are due in the week before launch, and this page will be updated from the official notes rather than from speculation.
